  • Inspiration for MOONLIGHT AND WISHES

I worked as a Disneyland Tour-guide during my early 20’s, back in the 1960’s, early 70’s. During my eight years touring with families, I witnessed the magic of imagination come alive in the eyes and hearts of children as they walked through the Magic Kingdom on my tours. I was inspired by the joy created in the children, their parents, and in my own heart. I lost hope, however, of ever having a child of my own in my late 30’s. I decided I needed to find my way back to being with children and the gift of imagination. Through happenstance I became a professional storyteller. I told fairytales, folktales, myths and legends to children in school assemblies, libraries and classrooms, and to adults on corporate sales trips around the world for six years. I taught the Art of Storytelling for Adult Enrichment Classes for my local community college and watched firemen, new grandparents, teachers etc. become nascent storytellers.  My soul was so enriched through this journey in story through imagination. During that time the basic premise for MOONLIGHT AND WISHES came into my heart, a story filled with imagination! I didn’t seek it out. It was just an inspiration! Then the miracle happened, I became pregnant with my daughter, Maddi! Over the next 30 years MOONLIGHT AND WISHES went through many iterations until I joined Miriam Laundry Publishing Co. in 2024. I am now working through their inspiring process from creation of a story to its launch as a children’s picture book sold on Amazon. Without Miriam’s team and their process, MOONLIGHT AND WISHES would never be coming to fruition. Thanks to them, however, it will be available on Amazon March 6th!!

  • Wishing On A Star

As a little girl in the 1950’s my family would often spend spring break on my Grandfather’s ranch known to us simply as “Mecca”. Mecca was located in the California desert somewhere between Palm Desert and the Salton Sea. The little town, in those days, still had hitching posts for horses and to my memory looked a lot like the towns represented in Western movies of the day. My brothers and I would bring friends for the week and after introducing the newbies to a “snipe hunt”(I need say no more to those of you who know what that is). We would enjoy laying out on the grass at night and watch the stars come out. Immersed in the awe and wonder of the expanding universe before us, we would always wish upon the first star we discovered every night. Our little hearts filled with hope and wonder as the burgeoning night sky unfolded its eternity of stars and possibilities before us. Wishing upon a star became a cherished activity for me both at the ranch in Mecca and back at home in Tustin.

  • MEET JOEY

When I thought about what I wanted Joey to look like, my first criteria was to have a little boy that was totally relatable, with at least one or more characteristics all boys could see in themselves. Then my author/coach, from Miriam Laundry Publishing, mentioned that I could ask my illustrator to create a likeness to someone in my family. So I chose my nephew, Woody, who has always had an intrepid, adventurous spirit. It was so much fun working with Patrick, my illustrator, in creating the one feature that uniquely expressed Woody, his hair! I always visualized Joey wearing a red top but never shared that with Patrick, and wondered, after approving my black and white illustrations, what color Patrick would choose for Joey’s top. He chose red! We were so in sink during the creative process. It was wonderful!
